History of KBP

The KBP Instrument Design Bureau is one of the leading design companies in the Russian defense industry. It has developed over 140 models of weapons and military equipment, which were put into series production and introduced in service with the Russian Army. At present KBP represents a high-capacity research and production center that creates the state-of-the-art precision-guided weapons. Technical solutions embodied in the KBP developments incorporate over 5000 inventions.

KBP carries out the development of weapon systems along the following lines:

  • antitank missile systems and assault armaments;
  • weapon systems for main battle tanks and lightly armored vehicles;
  • guided artillery projectiles and guided missile systems;
  • short-range air defense systems;
  • gun armament and associated ammunition;
  • combat small arms;
  • hunting and sporting guns.

KBP, being a leading developer of sophisticated weapon models, coordinates efforts of a great number of enterprises and companies, including research institutes of the RF Academy of Sciences and the Ministry of Defence, and determines national concept and strategy for arms development.

KBP high-capacity production facilities provide for series manufacture of armaments it develops.

As KBP develops and produces weapons for all arms of service, some of their components (thermal sights, radars, laser rangefinder/designators and others) are developed and manufactured jointly with other Russian leading enterprises, our long-standing partners.

Within many years KBP successfully co-operates with foreigh partners and offers advanced weapons and defence eguipment.

Besides the selling defence eguipment to foreign customers, KBP transfers licenses, production documentation. At foreign customers's request, KBP carries out R & D to build new weapons or to modernize those in service.

KBP has the following subsidiaries:

  • KBP's Moscow-Based Subsidiary;
  • FITOGENETIKA Biotechnological Research and Production Center.
