“IDELF-2008”

The International Defense Exhibition "IDELF-2008" was held at the Central Exhibition Complex EXPOCENTER in Moscow within the period from August 20th to August 24th 2008.

This show is one of the basic exhibitions of military products held at the territory of the Russian Federation and intended for demonstration of potential trends and technologies in the area of weaponry design and production and common military hardware. It was arranged by Federal service for military-technical cooperation (FSMTC of Russia). More than 400 Russian and foreign companies from 23 countries presented over 8 thousands military products. "IDELF-2008" demonstrated the results of work of our defense industry, its contribution in the outfitting of the Russian Army with newest samples of weaponry, in reinforcement of defense capacity of our country. The exhibition was attended by FSUE ROSOBORONEXPORT, KBP Instrument Design Bureau, Public corporation VOMZ, FSUE Splav. Almaz-Antey Concern, FSUE Kvant and others. The exposition of large-size military hardware, which is in service with the Russian Army, occupied an area of more than 1000 m2 at the Krasnopresnenskaya embankment.

The KBP booth with its Pantsyr-S1 air defense missile-gun system, Kornet-E ATGW, Krasnopol GAP, Malakhit FCS attracted great interest of the exhibition visitors.
Small-arms and grenade-launchers including the GSH-18 automatic pistol, the PP-2000 submachine gun, the OSV-96 large-size sniper rifle, the VSK-94 sniper rifle with silencer, the GM-94 and AGS-30 grenade-launchers, initially designed for Special Forces, were in great favour at “IDELF-2008”.The interest to these products was reasonable because KBP is one of leading designers and manufacturers of such weapon systems in Russia.

The new BMD-4 airborne fighting vehicle (AFV) was unveiled at “IDELF-2008”. KBP has developed the fire compartment along with FCS and armament. This is a tracked, armoured, floating, airborne vehicle for landing with airborne personnel. The BMD-4 weighs 13,6 t and features the most powerful armament among BMD AFVs and BMP IFVs. The Bakhcha-U fire compartment comprises the following armament: the 100 mm gun – launching unit, 30 mm automatic gun, submachine gun. The Bakhcha-U is provided with ammunition ready for automatic loading:34 rounds with the Vishnya HE-F shells, 4 rounds with the Arkan ATGM, 500 pcs. of 30 mm rounds, 2000 cartridges for the PKT submachine gun. The Arkan is guided by the laser beam that ensures high immunity of its guidance system to countermeasures.

The BMD-4 is capable to destroy modern tanks, air and ground-based targets, including lightly armoured targets).

No army in the world has such a vehicle in service, but the Russian Army.

The Pantsir-S1 evoked the greatest interest of foreign visitors as the most up-to-date SHORAD system that features high immunity to countermeasures and the ability to engage 4 targets simultaneously .The upgraded Berezhok BMP-2 was successfully demonstrated along with real firings , including the Kornet-E missiles launching at the Alabino firing range.

The Malakhit automated FCS intended for artillery systems was in great favour.

The International Defense Exhibition “IDELF-2008” has proved the role of the Russian Federation as one of the leaders among world powers that supply military products to the world market. “IDELF-2008” contributed to new business contacts, consolidation of partnership and confidence between countries.
