On
April 10, 2008 the 43mm
GM-94 magazine grenade launcher and associated ammunition
were adopted for service by the order of the Federal Security
service of the Russian Federation.
Under-barrel and hand-held grenade launchers
make it possible to radically enhance combat capability of
a warrior. The KBP-made GM-94 magazine grenade launcher, or
to be more precise the grenade launcher system, since in-house,
unique, multi-purpose ammunitions were developed and are manufactured
hereto, falls into this weapon category. GM-94 was developed
under the leadership of outstanding designer, academician
Vassily Petrovich Gryazev, a winner of the Hero of Socialist
Labor award.
After the grenade launcher and the ammunition
had been subjected to comprehensive trials, the 43-mm GM-94
hand-held grenade launcher and the VGM-rounds were adopted
into service with the Interior Ministry of the Russian Federation
in June 2005.
A GM-94-based version was developed to meet
the requirements of the Armed Forces, which coded as LPO-97
was adopted into inventory of the ABC-protection units along
with thermobaric ammunition.
In
terms of its combat effectiveness the GM-94 has no counterparts
and offers considerably enhanced fire power for independently-acting
combat units, especially in urban combat and in the course
of assault and anti-terrorist operations.
Another advantageous feature of GM-94 is the
weapon’s low signature, such as low-pitched sound and lack
of muzzle blaze. Naturally, the GM-94 operational use causes
no dust cloud at launch, as in case of a rocket-propelled
grenade launcher.
As of now, development has been completed of
thermobaric, irritating-action, flash/noise effect, shock-action
and fragmentation ammunition.
Other special-purpose ammunitions are being
developed. A wide range of rounds enables the user to perform
various combat missions.
The law-protection agency personnel can make
use of the multi-purpose weapon employing high-efficiency,
versatile ammunition, including non-lethal rounds.
