Small arms retain the key role as the weapon of army
and other law-enforcement units personnel.
The specific features of counteraction to organized
crime and terrorism led to a necessity to implement considerable
changes into composition and specifications of small arms and determined
the urgency to develop special-purpose small arms.
The diversity and contradictoriness of the requirements
to this type of weapon turned its development into a scientific
and technological challenge, requiring complex solutions to the
problems of accuracy, lethality and magazine capacity increase,
as well as reduction of the weapon weight and size. There was a
need for new ammunition of enhanced effectiveness. The sighting
units also required modification.
KBP Instrument Design Bureau succeeded in development
of a whole generation of new special-purpose small arms that enables
the personnel of army and law-enforcement mobile units to fulfill
a wide range of combat missions, both in defense and offence. The
new weapon samples were developed with efficient employment of both
new and standard weapons and ammunition.
